ELONGATE Provides Relief to Families Affected by Typhoon Rai (Odette)

In mid-December of last year, Typhoon Rai (locally known as Odette) devastated several regions in the Philippines. With hundreds injured, missing, or dead, it’s among the worst natural disasters to hit the Philippines in recent times and the third costliest in history. The ELONGATE team was planning to sponsor an eSports tournament with the Hinoba-an Gaming Community (HGC) when they received requests from the president of the HGC Association and local Hinoba-an residents to provide relief.

Earlier in December, the HGC Association had reached out to Elongate to sponsor a local eSports tournament. Participants gained entry into the event by planting mangrove trees and cleaning up garbage from local beaches and waterways to reinforce coastal ecosystems in Hinoba-an. Elongate and HGC coordinated with the local agricultural department to plant 1,100 mangrove trees. Unfortunately, due to the typhoon, the tournament was postponed.

The president of the HGC Association and the Hinoba-an community reached out to the Elongate team, seeking aid as Typhoon Rai began moving across the Philippine islands. In response, Elongate provided food for over 500 families, many of whom had to flee their homes with nothing left to return to. In addition, the team donated an electric generator for charging devices and flashlights. The HGC association took the initiative to oversee the distribution.
